Come join Holos director, Jan Edl Stein, in an extraordinary experience on the Big Island of Hawaii in this 6 night/7 day excursion into the wild and sensual “old” Hawaii.

Wednesday, April 11, 2018 through Tuesday, April 17, 2018

This will be a very small group (14 max) experience of nature based contemplations, meditations, elemental journeys, excursions to wild parts of the island, secret beaches and a special intimate swim with dolphins.  We are also hoping to provide some very special connections to native Hawaiian people who express their intimate connection with the land and spirit in a most loving way. We will stay at an exquisite and unique turn of the century real Hawaiian working ranch that has been transformed into a rustic/elegant and most comfortable lodge with swimming pools, organic gardens.  This is a working farm on 35 acres with hiking trails overlooking the north coast (and beyond to Maui – as seen in the main photo here).  This gracious and gentle ranch will be our home base for meditation, inner journeys, nature based contemplative practices and group sharing while we enjoy guided expeditions to extraordinary landmarks of original Hawaiian tradition, hidden beaches (the best of the island), local culture and a special excursion that offers a most respectful encounter with the magnificent dolphins.

The week is intended to explore the creative edge where the structures of our human experience gives way to encounter non-human sentience as we let our body-minds open to connection with elements such as wind, sea, the plant world as well as non-human beings such as dolphin, bird, insect, reptile and sea turtle.  In a sense, the experience invites you to “re-wild” your being in an extraordinarily beautiful place.

We will gather as a group at a large open-air pavilion for most daily meditations, journeys and later day meals with many off-site excursions to encounter the deep nature of Hawaii.

As a group we will have several off-site excursions (all will be optional)  that include a dolphin swim/boat ride, hike at Pololu Valley (northern most valley), visit to local Hawi town, beach time at a secret local beach, possible trip to Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau and some other options.

Tentatively planned is a guided excursion into a traditional Hawaiian medicinal garden, evening visits with a local native Hawaiian story-teller and Hula spiritual guide and a local island bird watching/listening experience.

Summer Solstice Retreat at Green Gulch

2016-08-20T11:41:38-07:00

Nature and Soul

A Daylong Retreat for the Summer Solstice

A day of retreat where nature mirrors our inner landscape

9:30 am to 5:15 pm with Jan Edl Stein, MFT
Green Gulch Farm and Zen Center, Muir Beach, CA

After more than a 2 – year hiatus of offering these beloved daylong retreat, we are glad to be returning to Green Gulch once again!

This retreat is one of a long series of seasonal retreats.  These seasonally offered retreats are a day of renewal and rediscovery, as we open ourselves to the land around us in addition to the landscapes within us.  This is a deeply experiential daylong retreat for the restoration of health, psyche, and spirit, offering a renewal of the soul’s intention and a re-connection with the elements of nature that support us.  We will slow down and take in the beauty that surrounds us and let nature reflect the shapes and patterns that are held in the psyche. The day is a combination of indoor experiences that involves guided meditation and inner (drum-lead) journey process and outdoor, land-based contemplative practices. The experience as a whole is an embodied example of eco-therapy.  An optional lunchtime didactic process that explores the ecotherapy theory and process is included for those who attend for CEUs.
Each retreat day reflects themes of the season in the meditations, journeys and our approach to the elements we discover in nature.

~ No previous experience is necessary ~

The retreat takes place in the beautiful setting of Green Gulch Farm and Zen Center, with its splendid coastal range flora, meandering gardens, Japanese architecture, and easy walk to the beach.  For COVID safety the center is not offering group lunches in the dining hall as was the case in past retreats.  We will be providing a generous offering of fruits, nuts, and other snacks.
You may pack your own bagged lunch…OR… , we can pick up a sandwich for you at The Good Earth in Fairfax.  Once you have registered, we will be in touch with you about a week before the retreat to arrange this and offer you some meal choices.
Please note that the cutoff for ordering a lunch will be June 21.

The SUMMER SOLSTICE retreat resides in the themes of fullness, delight in the natural world, an opening or blossoming and coming into a full expression of ones core soul being.  Given the strife and suffering that is in the world at this moment, we will lend our own core being to support the greater community of humans and non-humans of this planet.

Four Days of Nature Bliss: Letting the Natural World Seep into the Bones

a deep retreat offering your body and soul a moment to rest, restore, and renew

Thursday, May 4 through Sunday, May 7, 2017
Mendocino, CA
with Jan Edl Stein, MFT

14 continuing education units  available for MFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, Clinical Psychologists and Registered Nurses
(scroll down for more details)

In the rolling hills of the Anderson Valley of Mendocino County, California, come taste stillness and re-member your embodied self.   This 3 night/4 day retreat is focused on the returning to our senses, discovering a world ensouled as we delve into our own inner landscapes and welcome the natural world as it seeps into us at a cellular level.. This is a retreat where an inquiry into the nature of the self is found in the mirror of nature.
This retreat is designed to support you in renewing your physical, emotional and spiritual resilience at a time of great demand and stress.

We will call upon contemplative practices, mindfulness meditation, prayer, traditional shamanic journeys, nature -based meditations (both stillness and movement) and some earth-based ritual.  There will be sharing in mindful council and holding a space for dreamtime inquiry while holding a respect for deep silence and introversion for renewal.  We will invite our selves to see the sacredness of the natural world and welcome that moment when we are apprehended by elements of the natural world and may dialog with a world ensouled.  The core of the practice will be contained in the journeys into our inner landscapes where we can form deep connection with allies who can inform our actions and perceptions in the outer landscapes of our lives.
There will be solo contemplative time on the land completed with council style sharing.

This retreat will be of value to those interested in personal regeneration, enhanced creativity and wellness, and heightened spiritual awareness. It is an excellent adjunct to therapy, as well as a powerful method of self-care for helping professionals.  Self-care is encouraged during the retreat.

This retreat is open to anyone who yearns for a deep retreat and renewal of energy.
For the psychotherapists who attend, it will be an embodied teaching of deep retreat with just enough didactic practice to have witness to the personal process without interrupting your inner process.

The retreat will be hosted at a private retreat center which includes over 600 acres of rolling grasslands, expansive views and extensive trails amidst a rich and bio-diverse ecosystem in the rolling inland hills of Mendocino County.

Nature and Soul Daylong Retreats at Green Gulch

2017-10-15T17:42:10-07:00

On the Friday nearest to each Equinox and Solstice I offer a daylong retreat at Green Gulch Farm and Zen Center.
This on-going series of programs have become a cherished experience for many over the years and always gathers together a small, comfortable group of heartfelt people.  Some are “repeat” participants who relish the ritual of regularly marking these turning events and some are new to the circle.  Everyone is welcomed and we have found that each retreat day forms a sweet, safe circle that both welcomes sharing and respects the needs for introverted process.

These daylong retreats are an ongoing series of nature-based retreats that connect us to the cycles of nature. The retreat takes place in the gorgeous setting of Green Gulch Farm and Zen Center in Muir Beach, Marin Co., CA.  It draws upon the power of nature to mirror our inner landscape.  Part of the day is spent in guided meditation and journey to explore inner landscapes and part in solo, silent journey time on the beautiful land of Green Gulch.   Lunch at the center is included.

All are welcomed.  BBSE licenses (MFT, LCSW, LPCCs may receive continuing education credit)
